The family has lived on a 5 acre property in the Byron Bay hinterland since 1978.

Greg served in the Royal Australian Navy from 1965 to 1977 and TAFE NSW from 1987 to 2006 when he retired. He has been volunteering in the veteran advocacy space since 2010. He is a life member of the Returned and Services League of Australia.

Mary was a lifelong nurse having worked at St George, Wollongong and Mullumbimby hospitals as well as a few private hospitals.
